COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 1 UConn women's basketball faces off against No. 9/10 Stanford at the Countdown to Columbus Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN in Columbus, Ohio. Nationwide Arena is home to the 2018 Women's Final Four.
The Huskies received numerous preseason honors earlier this week. Senior Gabby Williams (Sparks, Nev.) and juniors Napheesa Collier (O'Fallon, Missouri) and Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) were selected to the Associated Press Preseason All-American Team.
Four Huskies were named to preseason watch lists; senior point guard Kia Nurse (Hamilton, Ontario) for the Nancy Lieberman Award, forward Collier, Katrina McClain Award, center Azura Stevens (Raleigh, N.C.), Lisa Leslie Award and forward Williams, Cheryl Miller Award.
The Huskies are 10-7 all-time vs. the Cardinal with the last meeting was an 88-86 overtime loss in Palo Alto on Nov. 17, 2014. Stanford is 0-1 after dropping their season opener to Ohio State, 85-64, on Friday. Brittany McPhee led the way with 24 points for the Cardinal.
The Huskies are coming off an overtime loss in the NCAA National Semifinals against Mississippi State, 66-64. UConn has not lost back-to-back contests since the 1992-1993 when they lost to Providence (3/7/93) and Louisville (3/17/93), a stretch of 886 games.
