SALEM, S.C. --- The UConn men’s golf team warmed up for conference championship play with its sixth Top Five finish of the season, capturing fourth place in the 12-team Clemson Invitational, which ended Saturday at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls.

The Huskies, riding Top Five finishes in their last three events, head into the season-ending American Athletic Conference Championship on April 22-24 at the Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort, Copperhead Course, at Palm Harbor, Fla.

UConn improved its standing with each round at the Clemson Invitational, finishing with a solid 2-over 290 in the third round, the best final round of any team in the tourney. That gave the Huskies an aggregate 19-over 306-287-290=883 for the tournament, to finish behind only team champion Boston College, Clemson and Notre Dame.

Leading the UConn contingent was redshirt sophomore Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.), who finished in a tie for fifth place in the 63-player field, his best finish of the year, with a 1-over 78-69-70=217. It was Hull’s second Top 10 and fourth Top 20 finish, hiked his total of par or better rounds to 14 and included his fifth sub-70 round of the season. Hull played the Par 5 holes in the tournament at a combined 3-under par.

Junior Nick Harrington (Chaplin, Conn.) also had his best finish of the season, ending in a tie for 11th place with a 4-over 76-71-73=220, his fourth Top 20 finish this year. Harrington now has 12 rounds of par or better.

Also for the Huskies, junior Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) had his seventh Top 20 finish as he tied for 19th place with a 7-over 74-76-73=223, sophomore Tim Umphrey (Northborough. Mass.) finished in a tie for 31st place with an 11-over 79-71-77=227, which included his sixth round of par or better, and junior Nabeel Khan (Westerville, Ohio) tied for 43rd with a 15-over 78-79-74=231.

UConn has had six Top Five finishes in 11 events this season as it heads to the conference championship.
